Living in this area is one of the great privileges of my life! I love it here, and I love showing people around. In today’s blog, I want to tell you about what’s new in Newport, Kentucky! This little town across the river from the Queen City draws people across the Purple People Bridge to Newport’s riverfront, where fine dining and excellent performance venues await!
Red Speedo at the Falcon Theatre
First in our tour of what’s new in Newport, Kentucky: Falcon Theatre, which put on its first play in the fall of 1989. Since then, it has grown from being a “spunky little upstart,” showing just two plays a year, to a full-fledged arts organization, with a full season of main stage performances plus multiple outreach programs. In January and February, Falcon Theatre will run Red Speedo, a 2016 Off-Broadway hit about an Olympic swimmer’s choices in the face of allegations of drug use. Learn more about the show here; see the Falcon’s full season and learn more about their programs here.
The Southgate House Revival
Formerly the Thompson House, this entertainment venue is a 19th-century church that has been renovated to have three stages: the Sanctuary, the Revival Room, and the Lounge. While SHR is mostly a live music venue, it’s also home to the occasional club nights and burlesque shows. See their full calendar here.
Newport on the Levee
It was an exciting day last year when many, many months of redevelopment culminated is several great updates, including the opening of The Buzz and Beeline, new cocktail bars; a renovation to The Gallery, the artisan market; and just in November, the opening of Sage Yoga, offering yoga and Pilates in a plant-filled studio.
Newport on the Levee is open for business seven days a week, and throughout the year offers many events for all ages. On weeknights in February, NotL will be offering Date Night on the Levee, experiences for two curated by their concierges.
